Did you know that on average in the world, drivers spend roughly two hours per day in their cars? Imagine all the time you could save for doing other things if you didn’t have to have your hands on the wheel! Reading the newspaper, booking concert tickets, taking part in a video conference… And they’re just a few of the things that drivers of the NEXT TWO prototype could do in traffic jams, in complete safety of course!
The explainations of Carlos Ghosn about NEXT TWO :
The NEXT TWO prototype represents the first stage in the mobility of tomorrow with an original concept that combines high-speed connectivity with ceded control. In specific situations, where the driver can most benefit from the extra time, the vehicle drives itself. In traffic jams up to 30 km /h on the expressway for example, NEXT TWO frees up time for drivers by ingeniously sensing its environment.
NEXT TWO features hyper-connectivity to offer occupants optimized services. Equipped with a smart modem that connects automatically to the best available network (2G, 3G, 4G, Wifi, etc.) and a multimedia platform compatible with all operating systems (including Android, iOS and Windows 8), the driver can access every connected service.
When control is ceded to the car, the driver can surf the Internet, make appointments, organize his or her day, receive tourist information or view nearby points of interest and interact with them!
Developing a car that can drive itself regardless of the complexity of conditions, from the expressway to the city, will take time, probably decades, but Renault is looking to develop phase one by 2020…
