Geneva Motor Show 2013: Captur crossover, star of the show

Making its debut at the Geneva Motor Show, Captur is Renault’s new urban crossover. It derives from the concept car of the same name, introduced in Geneva in 2011, which represented the 2nd step in Renault’s design strategy (Explore).

Renault Captur screams sportivity. Thanks to its compact footprint (4.12m x 1.77m x 1.57m) and large 16- or 17-inch wheels, it proclaims its sporty vocation and lust for adventure, while its substantial ground (200 mm) raises it to the level of a number of crossovers and 4x4s from the next segment up.

Easy to personalise, Captur can come in two-tone paintwork (roof & pillars/rest of the body), you can also choose the colour of the wheels, décor graphics for the bonnet, roof or tailgate, one of several interior décor colours and one of 12 upholsteries, including 8 Zip Collection zipped seat covers.

But above all, Captur is practical, with its Easy Life drawer in lieu of a glove box, patented Zip Collection removable seat, a large boot (377 to 455 litres), a rear bench seat that slides. It also features the very best of multimedia solutions thanks to a choice between the Renault R-Link or Media Nav systems.

Under the hood, Renault Captur comes with EDC (efficient dual clutch) on the TCe 120 petrol engine & dCi 90 Diesel engine (the latter will be available at a later date). It aims to be the category leader with regard to low fuel consumption & CO2 emissions. It can also equipped with Energy TCe 90 petrol engine, Energy dCi 90 Diesel engine.

To further reduce fuel consumption, Renault Captur benefits from the latest research into weight saving, aerodynamics and tyres. Its weight is the same as that of Clio III, even though it has a larger footprint and extra comfort and safety equipment.

A Q&A session was organised on Twitter (#Captur) with Captur product manager, Anne-Cécile Mathon-Montes. Here is some tweets that our followers sent & Anne-Cécile’s answers:

Q : Any more powerful engine planned ?

A: Not at the moment.

Q: Is a Captur R.S. in the works?

A: No. But if we see there’s demand for it, we’ll think about it.

Q: Will there be a 4x4 version of Captur?

A: No. Our testing groups thought it gave the car a bad image (polluting) & they weren’t interested in buying a Captur SUV

Q: Is Captur coming to Japan?

A: Yes! We still have to find its name there though. Launch date will depend on that.

Q: Who are you targeting with Captur versus Modus?

A: They’re really not the same cars. Captur will have a much wider client base than Modus.
