One of the commitments of the group’s CSR policy concerns road safety. Optimum eyesight at the wheel is vital – even in the era of connected and, soon, autonomous vehicles. This is why Groupe Renault is supporting Essilor’s initiative for World Sight Day. To raise awareness and encourage people to regularly have their eyesight checked, Essilor has developed a website, available in nine languages, where users can test their vision on line in just a few minutes: http://putvisionfirst.com.
World Sight Day is an awareness-raising day organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) in partnership with the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness. An estimated 285 million people worldwide suffer from a visual incapacity. A full 80% of cases of blindness can be prevented or healed. Every year in October, World Sight Day aims to raise public awareness on the prevention and treatment of the loss of visual acuity. It encourages people to regularly visit specialists to test their vision and, where necessary, adapt their glasses.
Road safety is a real public health issue. According to the WHO, there are 1.3 million deaths worldwide each year and between 20 and 50 million people injured on the road. For Groupe Renault, the safety of every user has always been a priority. Our goal is to reduce mortality and prepare for the challenges of future mobility. Groupe Renault pays particular attention to preventing road risks, and in particular to the training of its employees. Campaigns are conducted regularly to inform and train staff, including communication, e-learning, road safety week, and preventive driving courses.
The group’s road safety policy is divided into five main areas:
AWARENESS
This consists in educating people from a very young age on road risks and changing the behavior of all the players involved (public authorities, parents, drivers, children).
PREVENTION
Drivers need to be helped to anticipate risks through driver assistance systems, but above all they need to be made more responsible.
CORRECTION
The quality of road handling and braking are essential to preventing accidents. The contribution of technology is required to compensate for driving errors.
PROTECTION
The group’s priority is to protect occupants according to the type and severity of the impact, whatever their age, body type and position in the vehicle, and whatever the size of their car.
RESCUE
To optimize the rescuing of injured individuals in the event of an accident, Groupe Renault works with firefighters all over the world.
