Did you know?

The America's Cup is an international nautical sailing competition, wished by its initiators as a friendly and perpetual challenge between Yacht Clubs of different nations. The first race was held in 1851 and was defined under this name in 1857 by members of the New York Yacht Club.

Rule of the game:
The rule has remained practically the same since its creation. The holder of the America’s Cup, referred to as the "Defender", puts its title back into play and gets to choose the venue for the next edition, and in large part sets the rules of engagement. It is very much in the Defender’s interest to give itself every possible advantage so as to retain the cup.

35th edition in 2017:
The 35th America's Cup will take place in Bermuda in May/June. The competition will take place in the America’s Cup Class, a 15-meter, wingsailed, foiling catamaran capable of speeds near 50 knots (90 km/h).

5 "Challengers" will compete against Oracle Team USA (winner of the 34th edition): Groupama Team France, Land Rover Bar (United Kingdom), Artemis Racing (Sweden), Emirates Team New Zealand and SoftBank Japan. At the end of the qualifiers, the best of these 5 Challengers will then compete against the Americans in the final.
