#IAA2017 An all-new interior for All-New Duster: An interview with the Duster Programme Director, Vincent Fournier
Hello Vincent, Could you talk us through this new cabin?
Vincent Fournier: “All-New Duster’s cabin has been completely overhauled to make it even more comfortable and occupant-friendly. Its redesigned new seats, for example, offer additional support and now incorporate an arm rest. The ergonomics of the driver’s environment have also been revised, including an S-shaped dashboard with a central section that has been turned slightly to face the driver. The new centre console design includes cubbies that are particularly practical in everyday use. Possibly the most striking change, however, is the level of finish and overall impression of quality. They mark a big jump compared with the current car. Ride comfort has been upgraded, too, thanks to the use of considerably better soundproofing.
All-New Duster’s equipment specification has been upgraded to improve not only comfort and safety, but also the off-roading experience it delivers. Can you give us a more detailed description of the changes?
Vincent Fournier: All-New Duster effectively packs a range of new features that are unprecedented in the Dacia range.To improve comfort, it now boasts automatic climate control, complete with a particularly smart control panel design. There is also keyless entry. Groupe Renault has a sound grasp of this technology which we have merely simplified. All-New Duster is equipped with electric power steering, too, to enhance feedback and facilitate low-speed manoeuvring such as parking.
On the safety front, automatic head light activation, blind spot warning and curtain airbags are now all available. And, as you know, at Dacia we have a reputation to defend when it comes to providing the essentials at the most attractive price. We effectively take a very close look at the technologies that have been proven on other Renault-Nissan Alliance vehicles and endeavour to simplify them to provide our customers with only what they truly need. A case in point is our new Multiview camera which provides drivers with an overview of their immediate environment thanks to cameras fitted at the front and rear, as well as in the door mirror housings. These cameras allow the driver to know exactly where their vehicle’s wheels are, which is not only valuable when travelling off-road but also when motoring in built-up areas.
All-New Duster’s 4x4 capabilities themselves have been upgraded, meanwhile, thanks to bespoke features like Hill Descent Control which gives better control on steep slopes. There is also a display of 4x4-related information, such as the vehicle’s angle, plus a compass built into the satnav system.
What impact has the addition of all these features had on the price of All-New Duster?
Vincent Fournier: All-New Duster builds on the strengths that have helped to forge the Duster success story to date. For example, it is just as spacious and its 4x4 ability continues to figure amongst the very best. We have added to its undeniable credentials thanks to complementary features for a price that remains as affordable as ever. All-New Duster packs even more for an unbeatable price tag.
