How to become a “Gazelle”
Some 48 women joined in the adventure two weeks ago. Only 10 of them will be on the starting line at the 24th Rallye Aicha des Gazelles du Maroc in March 2014. Just a few days before the results of the Renault selection are announced, we look at how exactly you become a “Gazelle”.
The Rallye des Gazelles is an all-women event. The main focus is on the pleasure of driving rather than speed. Quite simply, to win, you need to drive the shortest distance possible.
For the 48 employees of the Renault group travelling from Morocco, Colombia, Romania, Lardy, Flins and Boulogne-Billancourt, distance is not a problem. They all volunteered to represent the brand and the Women@Renault internal network. But you can’t just become a Gazelle like that. Here’s what you need to know – and know how to do – before taking to the dunes in a Duster.
Using a map and compass
The nighttime orientation competition is decisive. No GPS systems are allowed. The challenge is to find 16 markers that together reveal a keyword for solving a riddle. Equipment required: map, compass and head lamps. Allocated time: 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Using your muscles
Intense physical effort is required for the obstacle course. Candidates get to assess their stamina, strength, speed and abilities in a number of workshops, organized by firefighters.
Using your head
Each two-person team attends a 15-minute psychological interview with psychologists from France’s CREPS sports psychology center, who assess the candidates’ motivation, interpersonal skills, ability to work as a team and their resistance to stress.
Using your stamina
Plenty of stamina is required in the Relay Trekking, Canoe-Kayak and Bike & Run events. The goal is to finish the course in the best time, crossing the finish line together!
Using your knowledge
Knowing about mechanics, the ins and outs of the Rallye des Gazelles and how to change a wheel in four minutes can win you bonus time.
And time for Gazelles is not money but happiness.
We would like to congratulate all the women who took part in the Renault qualifying events on the weekend of November 22 at the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines leisure center!
