2017 - Renault Megane R.S. - Design Exterior
New Renault Mégane R.S. is packed with technology and performance-enhancing features. Its unmistakeably sporty appeal is accentuated by a dynamic new body colour – Tonic Orange – not to mention Renault Sport’s expertise in the hot-hatch arena. We take a closer look…

Taking the form of a five-door hatchback, New Renault Mégane R.S. is an entirely new proposition. At first glance, it immediately stands out from the crowd with its wide flanks. Renault Sport’s teams deliberately chose to develop a bespoke new shell for the model, with wider wings and tracks to accommodate New Mégane R.S.’s mechanical elements. As a result, its wings have been extended by 60mm at the front and by 45mm at the rear. Its broader dimensions produce a better stance and enhanced cornering performance courtesy of its new 18 and 19-inch wheels.

Inspired by the world of motorsport

The motorsport-inspired design of New Mégane R.S. is firmly focused on performance. At the front, its bumper incorporates a Formula 1-style blade, which both helps to direct airflow and is symbolic of Renault’s commitment to F1. Along the side of the car, another blade suggests a ‘flat floor’ effect – a common feature in motorsport. Finally, at the rear, the spoiler, diffuser and centrally-positioned twin exhaust pipes fulfil both a technical and aesthetic function, completely in keeping with New Mégane R.S.’s performance-oriented design.

At its launch, New Renault Mégane R.S. will come in a new Tonic Orange body colour, available as an alternative to Renault Sport’s iconic Sirius Yellow. The product of intensive design work, this new colour combines a unique sheen with a special effect as light reflects off the body.

High-performance lighting

In addition to its sporty look, New Renault Mégane R.S. comes equipped with Renault Sport’s lighting system, R.S. Vision. Already a feature in New Clio R.S., the brand’s R.S. Vision multi-reflector LED lighting system takes the form of a chequered flag – another nod to the world of motor racing – that is incorporated into the front bumper and frames the F1-style blade. This patented technology – exclusive to Renault Sport – delivers high-performance lighting and covers the fog lights, cornering lights and dipped and main beam headlights. R.S. Vision stands out as an unprecedented lighting package in the segment to ensure an excellent level of visibility worthy of New Mégane R.S.’s high-performance pedigree. Meanwhile, for the first time, Renault’s trademark C-Shaped lighting signature incorporates Mégane R.S.’s direction indicators.

For an added injection of fun, New Renault Mégane R.S. also incorporates Renault’s on-board telemetry system, R.S. Monitor. The latest version features new graphics and is even more user-friendly, with a choice of two configurations:

  • R.S. Monitor, which displays the driver’s performance in real time on the R-LINK 2 screen.
  • R.S. Monitor ‘Expert’, which provides drivers with the opportunity to connect a camera (either an independent camera or their smartphone camera) to record their drive. They can then immediately play back and analyse their run thanks to the inclusion of vehicle data in the video. They can even share the film directly via social media.

There is a bespoke website for Renault Sport customers.

  • R.S. Replay allows owners to engage with other members of the Renault Sport community by uploading their recordings, playing them back and comparing runs on various circuits.
