Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Born in Brazil in March 1954, Carlos Ghosn is a graduate of the Ecole Polytechnique and of Ecole des Mines in Paris. He joined Michelin in 1978 as manager of the Le Puy plant in France. He became Chief Operating Officer of Michelin’s South American activities based in Brazil before being appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Michelin North America in 1989.
He joined Renault as Executive Vice President in 1996. In addition to supervising Renault activities in Mercosur, he was responsible for research, automobile engineering and development, manufacturing, powertrain operations, and purchasing.
Carlos Ghosn joined Nissan Motor as Chief Operating Officer in June 1999 and served as CEO from June 2001 until April 2017 when he was succeeded by Hiroto Saikawa. Since 1 April 2017, Carlos Ghosn is Chairman of the Board of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.
CEO of Renault since May 2005, he was appointed President and CEO of Renault on May 6, 2009, and reappointed in 2013.
Carlos Ghosn was Chairman of the Board of Directors of AVTOVAZ, the Russia’s automotive manufacturer, from 2012 until June 2016. In 2012 he also became Chairman of the Alliance-Rostec Auto BV, the holding company that controls AVTOVAZ.
In December 2016 he was appointed Chairman of the board of Mitsubishi Motors Corp, in which Nissan Motor had taken a 34% stake on 20 October of the same year.
He sits on the board of directors of the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), of which he was President from 2014 to 2015. He is a World Economic Forum Governor, a member of the International Advisory Council of Tsinghua University in Beijing, and a member of the Strategic Council of Saint Joseph University in Beirut.
